Eyes Wide Open

This presentation of a body of my work from a talk I gave in Southern California under my title series Eyes Wide Open.
The theme was based on the magic of photography:

"...the photographer's magic - the ability to stir the soul with light and shape and colour. To create grand visual moments out of small and simple things, and to infuse big and complicated subjects with unpretentious elegance.

Through the photographer's eyes a kiss becomes a romance, a stretch of fabric is a costume of endless possibilities, a face is the book that describes a lifetime. When you see great photography you hear music... or want to... because the light dances. It's playful and full of energy...

...photographs can stand alone... as frozen moments that decorate, define, entertain and inform. " Amyn Nasser ©

Naples...sweet beach, sweet and wonderful to photograph "E" by the piers. She's got such a gorgeous and mischievous smile, I was captivated. Beautiful beaches and gorgeous sunsets. We spent the day shooting all kinds of beachwear. This image from the series. 1200 Raw files / 8 sets. Flash outside at sunset. In such situations with the sun going down quickly which is a terrific light, you want to work fast to get the moment. The front light is soft and feathered enough so it does not look staged. I'm feathering the Metz and firing my D2X at a rapid rate to get that smile. Of course after 16-18 shots I do hit the buffer but that gives for a breather. All Nikon cameras and lenses. Metz 76 MZ-5 flashes.

She rocks and was great fun to photograph. This 2 day production done in Las Vegas - all shot at high speed with mixed light. I'm directing the model as she is moving towards me...while I am feathuring the light, moving in towards the model and back out to get the crop so the sun is exactly where it is and her head tipped back. Some 2500 Raw images to edit from and about 22 sets in 2 days. Lots of takes and a tough edit. All Nikon gear. More in my portfolio.
